A Review of “Silence of the Lambs House” by Lisa Nichols

Silence of the Lambs House is by Anne Enright. It’s a tale of a young girl who must deal with her conscience, her family life, and the secrets that keep her family protected. I enjoyed this book because it was different than other novels where the main character must overcome guilt, such smarty jones’ silver dollar series. This novel focuses more on family issues, and the repercussions for those who are left behind. It was interesting to read about a girl who grows up in the 1800s in the house of her ancestors.

I enjoyed the story and especially liked the part: when the author decided to write a novel based around the life of a young woman. Although the book is only 140 pages long, you quickly grow bored. It can be a bit boring, but then again, I enjoy reading historical novels where the focus is more on the history and not so much on the plot.

I did have one complaint about the book – and that is that it could have been trimmed a little shorter. The first few pages were very long and it kept me reading for quite a while, but then the last few pages could have been cut a bit shorter and that would have helped with my reading speed. Other than that, this is an enjoyable novel. The characters are well done and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

For those who are familiar with historical fiction – you should know that the history of the Lambs House begins during the American Civil War. Anna Jarvis is an escaped slave who has been given up for a Priscilla. The two of them end up together in the North and a man by the name of Robert becomes their new owner. He treats them badly and they become a victim of a riot that breaks out in their home. After this, Anna attempts to escape several times, but each time she gets recaptured. She eventually manages to free herself and runs away to meet the rest of the cast of characters in this book.

This book takes you into the mind of Anna Jarvis: It takes place in North Carolina during the American Civil War. While on this odyssey, the reader learns about their past, how they came to be together in the North and their present as a family. For someone who is looking for a historical novel that deals with slaves, this novel is an excellent choice.

For those who are looking for a romantic – historical romance, this one is not for you. But if you enjoy historical novels with a bit of romance, this one is worth checking out. I enjoyed this novel, it was entertaining, fast moving and I didn’t have any boredom or tedious details.
